Octavio Valdez Solorzano

September 13, 1968 - January 26, 2026

Octavio "Tavo" Solorzano passed away in Los Angeles, California, in January 2026 due to complications related to a kidney transplant. Tavo was born in Long Beach, California, and was the eighth child and sixth son of Cesar and Catalina Solorzano. Throughout his life, family remained central to his values. Tavo made certain his home was a gathering place for family and friends, providing kindness and community everywhere he went.

In his youth, Tavo attended school in Long Beach and Garden Grove, eventually earning a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies as well as a graduate degree in Negotiation and Conflict Management from California State

University, Dominguez Hills. Tavo's career was based in Human Resources, with an emphasis on Learning and Development, where he enjoyed coaching others to develop their skills, teams, and careers. He made a positive impact at companies such as SCAN, Edison, Disney, and Kaiser Permanente.

Tavo was known as the mayor—and beloved chismoso—of his neighborhood, spreading joy during the daily walks he took with his dogs. He was also known for a good long-distance chat when needed; no distance was ever too great for Tavo to lend his love and support. He could always be counted on for a hearty laugh, a good drink, and a sage bit of wisdom. Tavo enjoyed listening to '80s music and attending concerts. He valued traveling throughout the world and experiencing the cultures and communities of other countries.

Tavo is survived by his husband and partner, Deniz; his immediate and extended family; his beloved pets; and a community of friends. Tavo will be deeply missed by all of us, but his light and love will remain forever in our hearts. In time, the grief of his loss will transform into gratitude for the joy and blessings of the time we shared together.
